Garmin is a successful multinational technology company. The brand develops a large range of products in various fields. Garmin is involved with the aviation, marine, automotive, fitness and outdoor industries. Gary Purrell recruited Min H Hao from a defense contractor 'Magnavox' and together, they started 'Garmin' together in 1989. The company's initial name was 'Pronav'. First successful contract that kickoff Garmin with was a GPS unit and and handheld navigational tools for 2500.00(approximately), to the US Military in 1991. The company expanded its reach and introduced its first automotive product in 1997 with the launch of the GPS III.

Garmin was one of the leading developers of GPS devices in the world. Since then, the company continue to expand and grow, which led the company into producing GPS watches. Garmin watches were ideally use for outdoor purposes, explorers, mountaineers, deep sea divers and fitness fanatics.

Around 2003, Garmin has focused considerably on running equipment and the art of syncing its timekeeping devices with a tool watch that can be used for lifestyle and fitness, with its line of multisport smartwatches.

Although most of Garmin's revenue came from GPS devices that was built in for cars, however, in 2007, Apple had introduced a little device called the iPhone. Paired with the free Google Maps navigation app, the smartphone eliminated the need for a separate device. Because of this, Garmin took a different route towards Low-priced integrated chips, which combine a processor, memory and connectivity, had suddenly made small, sensor-laden gadgets.
