Sinn is a well-respected German Watch company that many watch enthusiasts consider as one of the most innovative and technologically advanced brands within the watch industry. Even as a young brand when compared with other competitors, its history has made sure the brand is well recognized and respected by constantly providing innovative and modernized technological goods to the public.
The founder of Sinn Watch - Helmut Sinn
The Sinn watch company was founded in 1961 by Helmut Sinn, a former World War II pilot and a legendary blind flight instructor, under the name ‘Helmut Sinn Spezialuhren’. With extensive knowledge and experience with aviation, Sinn was manufacturing navigation clocks and pilot chronograph watches, which remain as one of the most popular styles of pilot watches today.
Dr Reinhard Furrer wore the Sinn 140 S Chronograph Watch On D-1 Space Mission In 1985
As years went by, Sinn watches were beginning to attract attention with their goods and in 1985, a German physicist, Professor Dr. Reinhard Furrer, wore the Sinn 140 S model during the D-1 space lab mission. This mission put the Sinn 140 S watch to the public, that the self-winding automatic movement of the watch was working even when in space. This was a big stepping stone for Sinn, as the company gains its reputation the watch was not only able to withstand severe conditions in space, then it could certainly be able to handle Earth-based adventures as well.
Sinn 142 Space Chronograph Watch Was Worn On the Second German Spacelab mission
Sinn went to space again in 1992, but this time, it was the Sinn 142 S chronograph. The watch was worn by Dietrich Flade during the Mir-92 mission. The brand’s association with space missions continued into 1993 when the 142 space chronograph went on the second German Spacelab mission, the D-2. The mission was for 10 days, and during that time the watch flew approximately 6.7 million kilometers and orbited the earth 160 times whilst onboard the NASA space Shuttle, Colombia.
Sinn 203 AR Dive Watch – First Watch With Ar-Dehumidifying Technology
In 1995, Sinn released the 203 AR Drive Watch, along with the AR-Dehumidifying technology which was invented by engineers from Sinn. The technology is based on three technical elements: a drying capsule, extreme diffusion reducing (EDR) seals, and a protective gas filling. This technology rectifies the problems with mechanical watches. Not only does it prevent the watch crystal from fogging up when experiencing a sudden change in temperature, but it also prevented the problems with air moisture from getting into the timepiece. Ultimately, this extended the life of the watch with its anti-aging effects.

Hydro technology was introduced the very next year in 1996, where it provided many advantages towards deep-sea diver watch. The Hydro technology guarantees the watch from fogging, even under deep waters. The technology enables ‘reflection-free’ underwater readability even from any highly oblique angles. Pressure-resistant denaturalized the internal assembly pressure even at considerable underwater depths.
Sinn 303 Kristall Chronograph Watch Lug Width: 20 mm
While Sinn tirelessly continue to perfect their existing technologies, as well as innovate newer ones, temperature resistance technology was introduced in 1998. As we know that the accuracy of watch movement highly depends on the lubrication of its moving parts. With that being said, Sinn developed a special type of oil that allows it to properly function under extreme weather conditions that provides lubrication that is highly resistant to aging at temperatures between –45°C and +80°C.
Sinn 103 ST DIAPAL With Lubricant-free Escapement , Lug Width: 20 mm and 47mm from lug to lug
With further research and refining their existing technology, Sinn took the Ar-Dehumidifying Technology into the level with DIAPAL; where select internal components that worked without lubrication would enhance the life of the timepiece.
With a reputation as one of the best pilot watchmakers in the world, Sinn partnered up with Aachen University of Applied Sciences and created the TESTAF, Technischer Standard Fliegeruhren, that are technical standards for pilot watches to meet the measurement requirements during flight operations.
Sinn 910 Anniversary Split Second Chronograph Watch , Lug Width: 22 mm
As a watch brand that continues to refine and are constantly trying to better themselves, Sinn kept its word by manufacturing long-lasting sturdy watches for their customers. Sinn Watches are loved by their customers, not because of their looks, but their reputation for its affordability, sturdiness, as well as improved durability. For those who are in the market for reliable readability at any given condition, precision design, and intricate attention to detail, then Sinn is definitely worth considering.
