With all the watch bands that are available in the market today, are you headache about choosing the suitable one? Narrow down to material, leather must be the top selection out of all. Would you prefer genuine leather? Exotic leather? Bonded leather? What are the differences?

Types of leather

  • Bi-cast leather

Bi-cast leather (also known as bi-cast leather, by-cast leather, or PU leather, sometimes described as split leather) is a material made with a split leather backing covered with a layer of polyurethane that is applied to the surface and then embossed.

  • Bonded Leather

Bonded Leather, also called reconstituted leather or blended leather, is a term used for a manufactured upholstery material including animal hide. It is made as a layered structure of a fiber or paper backer, a pulp made from shredded leather and a polyurethane coating which is embossed with a leather-like texture.

  • Faux leather

Faux leather is one of several names given to artificial or synthetic leather. These names are often used to describe specific end uses of synthetic leather products such as faux leather (sofa, chair and headboard upholstery), leatherette (auto upholstery, clothing), and koskin (consumer goods).

  • Genuine leather

Genuine leather is made from organic materials, typically bovine hides. The natural collagen fibers are intricately intertwined, providing superior durability over man-made, weaved products. There are numerous variations of leather with various finishes. Some finishes provide better protection against daily wear, however, all leather is inherently stronger due to the innate composition of the hides.

With all of the choices of leather available, genuine leather watch band is what I would prefer. The use of leather adds warmth, comfort and versatility to your watches. Genuine leather doesn’t just mean that the product is made of real leather (which it is), but it also means it is the lowest quality of all products made out of real leather.

For people that are new to watch bands, and are having trouble deciding on their first leather watch strap. Perhaps you try what I did and to note down what you want, then narrow down to the specifics: types of leather or animal skin, color, style, type of the watch band and the most your budget range, etc.
