Just last week, we were able to get our hands on 2 of 4 latest new Seiko Prospex Alpinist models, the SBDC087 (Black) & SBDC089 (White). The SBCD091(Emerald Green) & SBDC093 (White Limited Edition) are scheduled to arrive later in the month which we will further discuss in later posts.

The latest Alpinist models are equipped with the 6R35 caliber (70hr power reserve), upgraded from the predecessor with 6R15 caliber (50hr power reserve). In terms of measurements on the new model, the case dimensions and thickness on the watch case have also increased from 38mm to 39.4mm, and slightly thicker from 12mm to 13.2mm.

On the visual aspect, several changes were made on the new Seiko Prospex Alpinist models. The Prospex logo in the middle of the dial is perhaps the first thing you notice when you first glance on the new model. The cyclops date window magnification lens was brought back after several generations of the Alpinist models.

Looking at the dial on the new SBDC087 (Black) model, the even numbers display hour has been changed to match the rest of the number hour display. On to the back of the watch case, the famous mountain logo with a full cover screw down case back is now replaced with a clear case back.

The “S” letter was removed

Last but not least, the “S” letter was removed from the crown of the latest Seiko Prospex Alpinist models.

With a rich history that Seiko Alpinist model watches have, they will continue to be one of watch enthusiasts preferred sub brand from Seiko for a long period of time. Even if the latest model may or may not be as appealing to you as some of the previous models with reasons such as the price, or things that have been added or removed from the design, it does not change the fact that Seiko Alpinist is a great watch. With generations of Seiko Alpinist watches that have been introduced over the years, there’s bound to be a model that intrigues you to add to your collection.
